Ban Netflix In India Trends On Twitter After Shiv Sena Member Accuses Platform Of Promoting 'Hinduphobia'!

Netflix is probably one of the most followed OTT platforms, not just across the nation but throughout the world. Netflix had invested in Indian content last year when it came out with its first original web series, Sacred Games and there was no looking back. The platform has encouraged so many talents to explore themselves without hindrance and a number of shelved films finally saw the light of the day through this platform.

Many Indian books have been adapted into web series. Well, Sacred Games was based on Vikram Chandra’s book and the upcoming series, Bards Of Blood too is based on a book of the same name. But looks like all is not well with this OTT platform.

Recently, a member of Shiv Sena, Ramesh Solanki, has filed a complaint against Netflix for showing anti-Hindu content. In his complaint that he submitted to the LT Marg Police station, he has accused shows like Sacred Games, Leila, Ghoul and the comedy talk show Patriot Act hosted by Hasan Minhaj have hurt “Hindu sentiments.”

He has also wrote, "It is with deep-rooted Hinduphobia that the platform is portraying the nation in a bad light. I urge the authorities to look into all of the above-mentioned content and take the necessary steps from summoning their team to canceling their licenses as deemed fit. One cannot allow an incorrect generalisation based on bogus rhetoric trying to defame a religious minority, that is, Hindu in countries other than India." 

Well, Patrick Graham has responded to the allegations and said,

"These are stories, work of fiction, there is no point in banning them. If you want to criticize them then write about it or write another story. You cannot call for a ban on content in a democracy."

Now, Ban Netflix India is also trending on Twitter, with several Indians taking side with Ramesh Solanki., Earlier, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the leader of Akali Dal, had accused Sacred Games of hurting religious sentiments. He said that the scene where Saif Ali Khan’s character, Sartaj, throws the kada was disrespectful to the Sikh community!
