Antim director Mahesh Manjrekar: ‘Salman Khan decided that he didn’t want a heroine or song’
Mahesh Manjrekar on Antim: Salman didn’t want a heroine
Bollywood’s Bhaijaan Salman Khan has portrayed various characters on-screen, successfully winning the audience over each time with his convincing performances. He has also played the role of a cop a few times where he added his own unique tadka to each character. Well, the superstar is all set to return to the silver screen as a cop, with a different flavor of course, with Mahesh Manjrekar’s directorial Antim: The Final Truth. This time he will clash against his brother-in-law and actor Aayush Sharma, who will be seen as deadly gangster Rahulia.
In a chat with Mid Day ahead of the release of the action thriller, the filmmaker revealed the one condition he made before saying yes to direct Antim. He was quoted saying, “I told Salman that I will write the film. That was my first victory. After I wrote it, there were some apprehensions about selling a movie that didn’t have a heroine opposite Salman. So, I included a heroine’s part and two songs. Later, Salman decided that he didn’t want a heroine or the song. That was my second victory.”
Manjrekar also shared that he did not want any ‘Salman-giri’ in Antim and wanted to make the actor do something different from what fans generally expect. He explained, “I wanted [Salman to play] a regular cop who wants to do his duty, but is handicapped due to the forces above him. I wanted that helplessness in him, and Salman brought that on [screen].” We can’t say much about ‘helplessness’ because we haven’t seen the film yet, but the trailer definitely promised a gritty storyline with honest and hard-hitting performances.
Antim will arrive on the big screen on 26th November.
