It is not that Bollywood films did not have an overseas market before. Films like Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name Is Khan and even Dilwale managed to do great numbers at the offshore box-office. But films like Dangal and Secret Superstar has opened up the Asian market for Bollywood films like never before.

The phenomenal success of these films in China have emboldened producers to break into more markets. As a result of this thrust, Akshay Kumar’s Kesari will now be released in Japan on August 16th. However, before Kesari, a couple of Bollywood films have made their way into the Japanese theatres and this is how they have fared.
