5 Uncanny Similarities Between Qaidi Band And Lucknow Central That You Can't Ignore
Many times, we see films based on similar topics releasing in a single calendar year. The story is tweaked at some places to have a different vision and of course, there are different actors, directors working on those films. While 2016 saw Sultan and Dangal set against the backdrop of wrestling, in 2017 we have the upcoming Lucknow Central and already released Qaidi Band based on the backdrop of a prison break. Sultan and Dangal both became blockbusters with Dangal now the highest Bollywood grosser ever. Qaidi Band tanked because of lackluster marketing and poor acting as is evident from the trailer, hopes are very high from Lucknow Central as there are a talented bunch of actors rounding up the cast and the film is marketed aggressively. We compared the trailers of the 2 films and these are the similarities we found:
The Story- Qaidi Band is based on the story of under trial prisoners i.e. whose judgment hasn’t been delivered by the court and they are still awaiting their verdict. While Lucknow Central is based on the concept of a man wrongly convicted of the murder of a bureaucrat and is thrown into prison.
The Band- Another part in the trailer of both the films focuses on the formation of a band by their respective prisons. While in Qaidi Band, the band has to perform for an Independence Day celebration in Lucknow Central, the said jail is to be the place for a prison band competition.
Prison Break: Both the films have their protagonists hatching a plan to escape. In Qaidi Band, the group plans to escape after the local minister decides that the band is his USP to win another election and none of the members should be released. In Lucknow Central, the plan is to escape from the start in the guise of forming a band.
The Music: Music plays a very important role in both the films. In Qaidi Band, we have members from the group who are lyricists, instrument players, and singers while in Lucknow Central, Farhan Akhtar ’s Kishan wants to be the lead singer of his own band. Both the films have a solid background score and some powerful tracks.
The Group: The films also focus on a group of misfits coming together and eventually become a family. Qaidi Band had a lot of new faces and unknown actors while Lucknow Central is full of talented actors like Farhan Akhtar, Deepak Dobriyal, Gippy Grewal, Rajesh Sharma and Ronit Roy . The chemistry of the actors in Lucknow Central seems like a treat to watch and it will be interesting to see whether they are able to break out of prison or not!
