Why Ranbir Kapoor Desperately Needs a Hit in 2016!
Looking back on things, it’s hard to understand how things became so messed up. One minute everything was as good as it possibly can be, and suddenly no good seems to happen at all.
There is little doubt that Ranbir Kapoor’s career is under-risk at the moment. A career that was once was so promising that it rose higher and higher with every movie, is now slowly failing.
Lately, there have been reports of trouble arising from the sets of his upcoming film Jagga Jasoos. The reports, which suggest a personal tiff with film’s co-star Katrina Kaif, could take the actor to a new low. The film, which is also his first production effort, is under threat of getting a delayed release if not completed soon.
Ranbir Kapoor can't afford any more failures. At least not right now. 2016 appears to be a make or break for him. Though, until recently, that was hardly the case.
After his forgettable debut Saawariya in 2007, he quickly turned it around and made people realise the size of his talent by appearing in films like Wake Up Sid and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. In 2011, he won his first Filmfare for Best Actor for Rockstar. He got the same the award next year for Barfi!. The following year, 2013, his movie Ye Jawani Hai Deewani was a huge success as well and is now one of the top grossing Bollywood has ever produced.
His immediate next film was Besharam. In the project, he shared the screen with his parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor for the first time. The film was a box-office bomb and received highly negative reviews. But there was no need to worry just yet. It was considered one of the 'it-happens-to-the-best-of-us" kind of experience.
In 2015, Ranbir had three releases lined up, namely Roy, Bombay Velvet and Tamasha. The latter two were directed by dependable directors, while Roy was supposed to be sort of an experiment, given how formulaic his previous film Besharam was. Though his performances were praised, all three films failed to perform commercially. Now it was time to worry.
Which brings us back to the present. Jagga Jasoos, despite all its filming trouble, can be a good film for the actor. Directed by Anurag Basu, the film is supposed to be a children's detective story. The film would also have Govinda in a pivotal role.
Ranbir's other release is more probable to succeed. Directed by Karan Johar, the film would be releasing at the end of the year and boasts an impresive cast of Anushka Sharma, Fawad Khan and Aishwarya Rai. The veteran director will be returning after a long hiatus with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and is bound to give his large fanbase something to cheer for.
For Ranbir, a lots on these two films. He needs at least one of them to be a hit, or his once promising career could become one failed experiment.
