12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

Hindi Film Industry has always had to carry the baggage of being judged in two segments. The first half and the second half! While films are generally meant to be scrutinized through its introduction, body, anti-climax and climax, in India we are used to forming our opinions based on pre and post interval sessions.

First Half Achha Tha, Second Half Thoda Slow Tha! You’ve heard this before, haven’t you? And that’s certainly not a very bad practice to follow since we’ve been made to follow movies like that through a filmmaker’s style of storytelling. There have been several occasions when movies have substantially varied in pre and post intermission sessions. While some movies find their positive shades highlighted in the first half, some get their pace only in the second halves.

Would Lagaan have been such a huge success if its nail biting second half wouldn’t have made up for its relatively slow first half? There have been quite a lot of instances when movies have lost their plot in the second half bigtime. Nothing goes more frustrating than a film building its promise up in the first half and dipping drastically low in the second half to shatter all your hopes.

Here we are with 12 of those films in the last 10 years where promising films lost their plot in the second half:

    Fan

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

One of the freshest examples we have in the business today is Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan. The film showed promise, dealt gently and amicably with its core plot but somehow changed tracks completely in the second half. When your audience starts questioning the logic in your narration, it stands to reason something has gone wrong. Fan could never become what it really potentially could owing to its over the top second half.

    PK

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

Yes, the highest grossing Indian film both in Indian and overseas markets apparently didn’t do down very well with the masses. While the first half was really powerful in its ability to convey its message, the second half went a little overboard and became a lot preachy. Most of what it showed in the second half was strikingly similar to Akshay Kumar-Paresh Rawal’s OMG! PK’s audience reception in totality was nowhere close to 3 Idiots yet, yet the star power of the actor-director made it a record breaker.

    Race 2

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

Released in 2013, Race 2 was a much anticipated sequel to the taut thriller we had seen in 2008. The film with double the star power this time started with some promise. As soon as it had its audience gripped in the narration, it completely went haywire in the second half. The treatment started defying any logic whatsoever and what could have been yet another decent taut thriller was left as a mere caricature of the first one.

    Ek Thi Daayan

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

Anybody’s who’s watched this horror drama a couple of years back would know what we are talking about. This horror film starring Emraan Hashmi, Konkana Sen Sharma, Huma Qureshi and Kalki Koechlin was so terribly chilling in the first half that it assured its audience a fantastic Indian horror film was on its way. Whatever happened to the filmmaker in the second half? What started as an impressively engaging film started being unintentionally funny and lost everything it had built at the start.

    Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

While this could arguably fall in the category of a debated entry, truth is its second half was nowhere even close to the charisma of its other half. While the film started as a happening colorful youth drama with life defining elements, the second was yet another dose of typical Bollywood masala material. A wedding, friend’s reunion, a lost found love, a newly discovered love and then everything goes just like we predicted. The film truly deserved a better second half!

    Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

One of the better looking films in 2013, this Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer love story had a lot of engagement in the first half. However, it pretty much lost the touch in its second half given the darkness the narration had to go through. While in totality the film didn’t completely disappoint, it could have done much better with its second half.

    Cocktail

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

One of the most talked about rom-coms of 2012, Cocktail was mostly enjoyed by the masses. However the cool and urbanely styled drama that it was turning out to be was dreadfully undone by its lethargic second half. The film decided to walk over all possible clichés of a trademark Bollywood romantic movie and ended up earning much less acknowledgment than it ideally should have.

    Talaash

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

One of the most underwhelming movies that Aamir Khan was a part of, Talaash ended up making its audience completely dissatisfied. The first half was laced with carefully penned screenplay with a growing mystery gradually taking over your mind. The second half on the other hand let go off the grip it had built in the first half. The out of place climax, the uninvited melodrama and the disoriented explanation was enough to make Talaash an underwhelming experience.

    Band Baaja Baarat

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

The loud, colorful and pleasing first half of this Ranveer Singh debut was something that set its audience in a good mood. However, the film just lost flavor in its second half. The forced confrontations, the half-baked romance and the overall feel of the latter part of the movie just didn’t compliment its first half.

    Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

Not many fans could be spotted around the globe for this SRK starrer. Yes, its overall plot was largely found questioning reason. While the first half did enamor itself with some light believable moments in the run, the second half was mostly getting on the nerves of the audience.

    Om Shanti Om

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

Yet another SRK entrant in the list, Om Shanti Om that came out in 2007 was another specimen of how a bad second half can spoil the party. The first half looks real, charming and alluring carrying some genuinely romantic moments between the lead pair. However the second half was a sheer rundown of Rishi Kapoor starrer Karz that believe it or not was a far superior product than Om Shanti Om.

    Chup Chup Ke

12 Bollywood Movies That Lost The Plot Post Interval!

We all have seen this and we all love it, don’t we? But did you really ask yourself why we have never been able to sit through its runtime? Well the answer is the losing second half. While the former half of this Priyadarshan directorial was hilariously funny, the film all of a sudden loses its focus and becomes too dramatic in the second half. Despite some visible efforts of Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor and Om Puri, the film could never really achieve the feat it could have, owing to its plain second half.

Don’t agree with this list of ours? Go watch them again and you’ll know we have a point to make. Just like we mentioned, it’s a pain when a film shows promise and then just fizzles out. Phew!
