10 Actors Who Turned Down Lucrative Endorsements For Their Principles!
Endorsements have got a lot of Bollywood stars in trouble and with the recent example of Maggi and its brand ambassadors Amitabh Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit, stars have become a little too careful about the products they endorse. Such is their stardom that people tend to blindly believe them and follow.
Though not all the actors distance themselves from endorsements because of legality, a few do it on moral grounds. They don't support any cause or product because it will fetch them money, but as a responsible citizen, they want to lend their name to a brand which goes with their principles.
Anushka Sharma has made it very clear that she will never endorse any product that propagates racist and sexist remarks. She has said, "I don't want to endorse products that propagate fair skin and all. I will not propagate anything that says this is right or wrong."
Randeep Hooda too has a problem with India's obsession with skin colour. He made it very clear that he will not endorse a fairness brand. He says, "India, as a country, has an obsession with fairness, whereas the entire world is lying under the sun and getting a tan. I think men should be tall, dark and handsome and not tall, fair and handsome."
Kareena Kapoor is a vegetarian and she turned down an ad offer with a chicken brand.
Akshay Kumar turned down an endorsement of a paan masala brand which would have easily got him a few crores but he doesn't endorse anything he doesn't support for money.
Even John Abraham has similar views on endorsing tobacco and alcohol related products.
After a confrontation with a school kid, Amitabh Bachchan stopped promoting a cola brand. The kid quizzed Amitabh Bachchan about endorsing a product that her teacher said was harmful. Ever since Big B has been careful about the products he endorses and he also turned down an offer because the subject was somewhere close to dowry.
Kangana Ranaut has always been vocal about the things she doesn't stand for and one such thing is the brands she'd endorse. Kangana has made it very clear that she will never endorse fairness creams because they promulgate racism.
Ranbir Kapoor has also turned down an offer of a fairness cream. He says that such products only make racist stereotypes stronger.
Aamir Khan turned down an endorsement for a luxury car brand which would have got him a few crores, but Aamir wants to work on ads that are socially relevant.
Emraan Hashmi also turned down a fairness offer.
