Tom Holland to continue his stint as Spider-Man in a new trilogy? Insiders say plans not official
No Official Plans For A New Spider Man Trilogy
The recent comments by actor Tom Holland casting doubts about his future playing Spider-Man after Spider-Man: No Way Home has left fans worried if this meant another reboot for the beloved franchise. In the past, the longest any actor has played the beloved web-slinger has been three films that being Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi's original trilogy.
But Sony was quick to elevate these fears as Amy Pascal co-producer of the new trilogy announced that they were going forward with Tom Holland. She told Fandango, “This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” and went on to add, “We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go on to the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.”
However, it may seem that she spoke too soon as according to a recent report by THR, insiders at Sony have said, "Though the studio has a strong relationship with Holland and Feige and hopes to continue their collaboration, there are no official plans for a trilogy at this phase." Now, while it may not be official, it would be unlikely for Sony to publically announce a new trilogy without reason and a new film may still be in the early stages of development.
Due to the high box office and critical success of the Tom Holland trilogy, it isn't hard to believe that a new trilogy could be on the way later in the future, and with Spider-Man: No Way Home set to hit theaters soon already having a record number of ticket pre-bookings worldwide it seems unlikely that the future is bleak.
