Detective Pikachu Movie Has Found Its Writers

Variety has reported that Legendary Entertainment and The Pokémon Company have found its writers for Detective Pikachu in Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman. The former is known for his work in Disney series ‘Gravity Falls’ while the latter is known for her involvement with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Detective Pikachu will be the first ever live-action Pokemon film.

The Detective Pikachu game was released in Japan earlier this year while the first Pokemon game debuted in 1996 in Japan. Since 1998, around 19 animated Pokemon movies have been distributed but only 5 made their way to the United States theatres. The production for the Detective Pikachu movie is expected to start in 2017.

The distribution of the film outside Japan will be handled by Universal Pictures while Toho will be responsible for the distribution in Japan. The studios are keeping the details regarding the project under wraps and so there is very little information available. The movie can be expected to hit the screens in late 2017 or early 2018.
