A couple of months back, news that Kabir Khan will wield the megaphone for an upcoming Phantom Productions’ project broke. The recent development about the same is that Ranveer Singh has been roped in for the anticipated venture. The flick will be based on India's golden moment in cricket history when the country won the 1983 World Cup under Kapil Dev's guidance.

A source was quoted as saying, “Ranveer has been approached for Kabir’s cricket film and if all goes well after completing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati the actor might start working on this project”. Speculations are also rife that Ranveer’s friend Arjun Kapoor was the initial choice for the movie. Rumour also has it that other cricketing stalwarts like Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Madan Lal, Mohinder Amarnath, Kirti Azad, Syed Kirmani, Yashpal Sharma, Balwinder Sandhu and Sunil Gavaskar will also be a part of the movie.

The movie is touted to also focus on the background of the Indian cricket heroes and the situation of the country during the World Cup. The flick is expected to kick off either by the end of the year or beginning of the next year. Currently, Kabir is occupied with his upcoming historical war drama ‘Tubelight’ starring Salman Khan as the male lead. The Indo-Chinese project is slated for release in June, next year.
