Karan Johar Feels The Audience Wants New Faces
Student of the Year director, Karan Johar, has recently stated that audiences are ready and more accepting towards new faces. The director-producer is known for bringing new talent to the industry and is responsible for shining light on young actors like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Karan stated that as a producer, he does not get involved with the casting but when he directs, he is quite particular about who should play the parts.
Talking about introducing new faces at the launch of TalentNext, a talent-recruiter online platform, the 44-year-old shared, “Today, there is a need for fresh and new talent. One doesn’t want a same actor playing the role of a father or mother every time. It is all about finding new and fresh talented people as people praise also and there is acceptance as well”. He feels that ‘Lagaan’ did a great job with its cast and introduced the criteria of unusual casting in commercial movies.
“I think Lagaan opened the door for unusual casting in mainstream cinema. As there was not a single film till 2001 that had so many interesting new faces and they all left a mark”, he stated. Karan is currently busy with ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, in which he is directing Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai.
