Padmavati Release Halted?
Ever since Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnus opus Padmavati went on floors, the movie has found itself surrounded by one or the other controversy. While the team was shooting in Jaipur, the Rajput community attacked its sets. It happened again in Kolhapur when the locals attacked the sets.
The movie found itself again in the midst of controversy when it was reported that Ranveer Singh’s character of Alauddin Khilji is a bisexual, which is strongly against the Indian audiences’ context. When everything was going fine with the entire team awaiting its release, another fresh trouble struck the film. Now a leading political party has demanded that Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial should be postponed.
According to reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appealed to temporarily stay the release of Padmavati to avoid hurting the sentiments of the Kshatriya community and to causing unnecessary tension during the Gujarat elections. In fact, the BJP state vice-president and Kshatriya leader IK Jadeja has even written to the Election Commission, the Central Board of Film Certification and the Centre to temporarily hold the release. “We are writing to the ECI, CBFC and the Centre, seeking to stop the film’s release for a temporary period till the issue is resolved,” Jadeja wrote to a national daily.
According to reports, people are angry over the fact the movie shows a romantic angle between Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) and Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh). The political party, the Kshatriya community and the Rajputs are not happy with the false portrayal. Gujarat politician Shankersinh Vaghela has demanded to watch the flick before it hits theatres. They want to watch the flick before it graces the silver along with some Rajput community to prevent unnecessary tension ahead of the polls which will take place on December 9 and 14.
However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and team Padmavati have termed all these reports as groundless.
