Dhanush’s VIP 2 Rocks The Box Office

It’s been a great year for Dhanush with back-to-back successes. He started off with a bang with the runaway success of his directorial debut, Pa Paandi, which not only appealed to the audiences but critics as well. His latest release VIP 2, despite being panned heavily by most critics, has managed to strike big at the ticket window and how.

According to reliable trade pundits, the film has grossed over Rs 14 crore in its opening weekend in Tamil Nadu. Its five-day weekend, thanks to Independence Day holiday, is expected to be around Rs 20 crore.

The numbers have once again proved the critics wrong. Despite opening to very bad criticism, the film managed to draw audiences because the VIP franchise brand. This success is particularly special for director Soundarya Rajinikanth, whose last work Kochadaiiyaan was a disaster. Dhanush has also hinted that VIP 3 is on the cards and he plans to work on the project soon. While promoting VIP 2, Dhanush had said the franchise will have two more parts which will be eventually made in the coming years.
