Mulk Trailer Breakdown: Rishi Kapoor and Tapsee Pannu Shines Bright In The High Voltage Drama
Updated : July 09, 2018 03:01 PM ISTThe trailer of the upcoming film Mulk is out and it is quite impressive. The film starring Rishi Kapoor, Tapsee Pannu, Prateik Babbar and Ashutosh Rana in titular roles comes across as a high voltage courtroom drama. The film is being directed by Anubhav Sinha and will hit the theatres on August 3 rd. Here is what we thought about the trailer.
It Is A Story About A Muslim Family Embroiled In Terrorism Accusations
From the trailer, it is apparent that the story revolves around a Muslim family based in Benaras whose son, played by Prateik Babbar goes rogue and joins the Jihadi movement and gets embroiled in politics. The daughter of the family, being played by Tapsee, is a lawyer who battles it out to remove the terrorism allegation against the family and the especially the old patriarch, played by Rishi Kapoor, who is hell-bent on proving his love for his motherland and tolerating discrimination on the basis of his religion.
It’s A High Voltage Courtroom Drama
The last hard-hitting courtroom drama we witnessed in Bollywood was probably Pink back in 2016, given we would not like to consider Jolly LLB 2 as a decent courtroom drama. After that, this is another courtroom drama that has piqued our interest. With the immensely talented Ashutosh Rana playing the lawyer who Tapsee battles against, we are sure of witnessing some high voltage court-room drama in the film.
Rishi Kapoor And Tapsee Pannu Shines
Even in the trailer, Rishi Kapoor as the old patriarch fiercely protecting his religion and love for country and Tapsee as the fierce lawyer grabs attention instantly. It is a look that we have not seen Rishi Kapoor in and we can’t wait to see the action unfold. Among other cast members, we are expecting good things from Prateik Babbar and Ashutosh Rana.
Anubhav Sinha Is Showing Promise
When it comes to action thrillers, Anubhav Sinha has been somewhat in the hit and miss situations. While we loved his Dus, Ra.One and Cash were total disappointments. But here he looks like he is in his familiar territory. The backdrop of the film in Banaras and Sinha herself in from Allahabad and has a fair understanding of the backdrop in which his story is set. The balance between action and drama looks quite killer in trailer.
It Raises Some Very Pertinent Question
The movie raises a lot of pertinent questions about the current socio-political scenario. With raging intolerance debate in the country, the film is extremely relevant to the ‘us v/s them’ controversy going on. Muslims being stereod as terrorists and the grief of being disowned by their own motherland and the constant effort to prove their love and loyalty for their motherland is being explored in the film. Although it is hardly a never seen before topic, but good performances and a sharply executed courtroom drama can add layers to this narrative for sure and that is what we are expecting from the film.
