Bharti Singh taking a 50 percent pay cut for The Kapil Sharma Show, 70 percent for hosting Dance Deewane; comedian reacts

The entertainment industry is in the doldrums since the pandemic hit. Seevral actors and talents have opened up about taking a pay cut during this time and comedian Bharti Singh says it was no different for her. Known for hosting several TV shows and starring on a comedy show reports suggest that comedian has had to negotiate a much lower fee than one she’d normally get.

An ETimes report claims that Bharti who hosts Dance Deewane with husband Harsh Limbachiya, took a 70% pay cut for her place on the show. Also returning on the Kapil Sharma Show the comedian after several months, she is reported to have faced a 50% pay cut there too.

Bharti, however, tried to rationalize the scenario in an interview with the publication discussing the extraordinary situation. She showed support to the producers and said that when things were normal they fulfilled many of their demands and now it is their time to reciprocate. She says she has no issues taking a pay cut.

“I guess everyone felt the pinch when they were asked to take a pay cut, and I was no exception. I also negotiated a lot over it. However, when I reflected on the recent times and what has unfolded in the last year, I realised itna kaam band ho gaya hai. TV and shows ko sponsors nahi mil rahe hain toh channels kahaan se paisa laayein. Everyone is trying to get back on their feet. Once we generate good ratings, sponsors will automatically come back and our fee will also be raised, Bhati told the publication.

She also felt that while asking artists to take a cut is fine, the technicians should be spared. “I know sabke paise cut rahe hain. I feel jo set pe technicians hain, unke paise nahi cut nahi karne chahiye. We are working together and trying our best to stay afloat. So, I don’t think anyone had an issue in taking a pay cut.”
