Updated : May 10, 2020 04:48 PM ISTOne of the most popular, experienced and acclaimed filmmakers of the Hindi film industry, Subhash Ghai has gifted Bollywood many masterpieces such as Saudagar, Pardes, Iqbal, Karz and Taal among others. He worked with some of the biggest superstars of Indian cinema and also brought out the best in them. However, in his 53 year long career, the filmmaker never collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan for a film. They did try twice, but sadly things never worked out for.
They did begin working on one film together, which was titled Devaa, but the project was stalled at an early stage. While some reports suggested that they parted ways due to creative differences, others claimed that it was because of ‘ignorance’. Well, in a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, Ghai has finally revealed the reason why the film was shelved. He shared that none of them were at fault and did try to collaborate, but the situation was such that the film could not be made.

He went on to add, “Even I was at fault as I was impatient back then. He is one of the finest actors of India and it is my bad luck that I could not work with him. He does the bad scenes also so well that it puts the writer to shame. I did not write as well as Amitabh Bachchan performed it. I am a great admirer of Amitabh Bachchan and we are family friends. It was not in our fate to work with each other.”
Many years later it was reported that Subhash and Amitabh would collaborate for Sarabjit Singh’s biopic. However, this time the actor did not have any dates.
