Not Just Pirates Of The Carribean, Thugs Of Hindostan Trailer Will Remind You Of These Bollywood Films As Well
Updated : September 27, 2018 06:04 PM ISTAfter keeping us on tenterhooks for a while now, YRF finally released the trailer of much-awaited Thugs of Hindostan today. The film which is being touted as the biggest Indian film ever has Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in a fierce and larger than life avatar.
While the trailer has been garnering widespread appreciation, the comparison with the superhit Hollywood film series Pirates of the Caribbean has also been constant, and to be honest the similarities are hard to overlook. But if you watch the trailer carefully, it is not only Pirates of the Caribbean that it reminds you of. Here are a few Bollywood films that we were reminded of while watching the trailer of Thugs of Hindostan.
Mangal Pandey

It is probably due to the British soldier costume that Aamir Khan sported in the film Mangal Pandey, but one of Aamir’s glimpses in the trailer called for a major Mangal Pandey throwback. Aamir is seen in the same red costume that British soldiers used to wear in the pre-independence era. Also, Aamir’s proximity to British officers also looked a little similar to the first half of Mangal Pandey: The Rising.
Kranti

From the general plotline to the war in the sea sequence, Thugs of Hindostan will definitely remind you of 1981’a Kranti directed by Manoj Kumar. The film starring Dilip Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini and Parveen Babi was also a massive multi-starrer of its time just like Thugs of Hindostan is. Also the whole a band of skilled warriors taking up arms against Britishers to realize ‘azaadi’ resonates with the vibe of the film.
Eklavya

To be honest, it is not so much the plot but the setting and especially Amitabh Bachchan’s look in the films reminded us a lot of Amitabh’s look in Eklavya. The same unkempt hair with an armor-like costume surely made way for an instant throwback
