EXCLUSIVE: Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai: My Mother Asked Me To Make My Kids Watch The Re-Run Of The Show, Gushed Lead Actor Kinshuk Mahajan
Kinshuk Mahajan On Bidaai Re-run
Updated : April 20, 2020 06:35 PM ISTMost of the hit shows of the early era of television are back on TV, be it Ramayan, Office Office, Shrimaan Shrimati so on and so forth and now, another hit show that is back on the tube is 2007’s Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai. The show starred Kinshuk Mahajan, Angad Hasija, Sara Khan and Parul Chauhan in the lead roles. It had a hugely successful run on television and was one of the biggest shows of its times.
Kinshuk Mahajan is one of those A-listers of television who doesn’t mind keeping a low profile. He is arguably one of the most popular faces on TV but doesn’t hype about it.
You really won’t see him talking about any issue and pouring his opinion on things that he is in no way related to and that surely is a good thing. On the contrary, the fact that his other contemporaries are always out there, sort of enlivens a mystique about him.
His very first show which was a huge success on television is having a re-run. In fact, today the first episode of the show ‘Bidaai’ was aired.
The reticent actor who celebrated his birthday just two days ago, on the 17th of April amid quarantine, believes in maintaining a low profile stated he doesn’t quite like talking on things that don’t materialise. “The last show I did was Gatbandhan, I don’t know but it happens so that I keep a low profile. For instance, I did a pilot for Sony Sab which got scrapped about a week ago. I don’t think it is of any point talking about things that don’t quite work out.”
Bidaai as a standalone show was a huge success. It was one of the first successful shows of producer Rajan Shahi, “Of course, when the show came out originally, everyone used to watch it. It was a trend-setting show then. In this quarantine period, people are watching shows that were made a long time ago. People loved it (Bidaai) then, again when they will watch it they will love it again. It has been more than 10 years."
Mahajan goes to reveal the immense love the show gets from different countries it is aired in. “The show travels to various countries and we keep getting messages of appreciation on Instagram.” He says.
However, at the same time, he is not ready to take much credit for the success of his first television act. He accredits his success to providence. “Bidaai will always be close to my heart, when I watch it and think about the success I got and my character got, I feel it was beginner’s luck. In these 10 years, I have matured as a person and as an actor, now when I look back, I feel, sometimes the characters work much more than the actors and that’s what happened with me, the characters of the show were very well written. So, it was great to be part of that show. As actors, we are all seasonal. All our shows won’t be liked by masses there are a lot many factors that go behind making a popular TV show.” Quipped the show lead.

Times have changed and things have evolved, nothing has stopped and as far as his parents are concerned, they still are enthused about their son and with the same excitement watch the re-run of the show. “In these 10 years, I have become a father. Being a father, I am sure he feels proud to watch his son on TV. It makes them proud, today my mom was telling me, Bidaai is coming back make your kids watch it.”
Well, when you are acting in front of the camera, you are doing your job, many actors don’t quite get the opportunity to see their work on screen but Kinshuk is happy he is getting a chance to be a critic of his own performance. “It is a nostalgic feeling altogether. When you watch your work, and your parents watch it too. At the end of the day, you should be proud of your work. I have been proud of it!”
