Raj & DK On Comparisons Of The Family Man With Fauda
Updated : November 08, 2019 11:58 AM ISTThe Family Man has been playing for last few weeks and is continuing to garner wonderful appreciation for itself. The Manoj Bajpayee starrer is one of the few web series from India that has managed to make waves internationally as well and credit for that must go to the show creators Raj & DK, the mavericks behind Stree, Go Goa Gone and 99 to name a few. Here is presenting Part 2 of the exclusive conversation with the director duo.
Director Duo Raj & DK On Comparisons Of Manoj Bajpayee’s The Family Man With Israeli Spy Series Fauda - "Fauda Wasn&squot;t At The Back Of Our Head At All"
I could also find template related similarities with the brilliant Israeli series Fauda. Was that also at the back of your mind?
Raj: I haven’t really seen Fauda. I know about it. I know the context of the series. I have seen some clips and trailers. We were very conscious that we wanted some humor to form the kind of series where we don’t get too bogged down. We were talking about serious issues but with certain entertaining aspects. We haven’t seen this in spy shows which are usually devoid of humor as they are plot driven. Fauda wasn't at the back of our head at all.
DK: We didn’t really know about Fauda initially. We were developing the series and someone pointed out Fauda and then I saw it a couple of years back. The genre is similar but the treatment and slice of life aspect is very different. I think they are two completely different shows. If it was at the back of our mind then it was more about not being similar than being inspired. The last thing that we wanted was to have comparisons with Fauda. When Go Goa Gone trailer came out, many people jumped to it that it seemed like Shaun of the Dead. When they saw Go Goa Gone, they realized that it was not the case. A lot of people have compared The Family Man to True Lies but then that film is also way different.
While all eyes are on the second season of the series, what happens in the world of films for you?
Raj: When it comes to producing films, we are not a company which has to produce 3-4 films a year. We are creators; we would like to produce another film after Stree when we think that we have a cool idea that we won’t be able to direct due to time constraints. We have quite a few exciting ideas so as soon as we are done writing, we will start producing our next film.
DK: We have been really enjoying this world of making series. We are developing season two of The Family Man. We also have a couple of other series that are we are developing. In addition there are also a couple of films in the pipeline. There is one film that we would be directing. We have a full slate that would keep us busy for next year and beyond. We write all our content. Everything takes time. It takes a few months for us to make series and films. We spend a lot of time on developing films. Every few months we would be taking out something. That’s the plan for now.
