Talking about the horrific crime of acid attacks the movie talks about how the victims fought their way through into a new life.

Instead of taking a depressing route and making it a life-ending incident, filmmaker Meghna Gulzar had made this one a story of hope and courage and that is precisely where the beauty of the film lies. Deepika’s character Malti is inspired from Laxmi Agarwal the acid attack survivor from Delhi.
The actress has admitted often during the promotions of the film that Chhapaak has been an emotional journey for her and one of the hardest films for her. It is also a milestone in her career as her very first movie as a producer.
