Ranbir Kapoor will star as Sanjay Dutt while Manisha Koirala will play Nargis Dutt and Paresh Rawal is playing Sunil Dutt. Actors such as Anushka Sharma, Vicky Kaushal and Sonam Kapoor will also be seen in the film.
Sanjay Dutt's life is full of ups and downs and his battles with drugs and links with underworld gave him the title of the bad boy of Bollywood. While his father Sunil Dutt always supported him, he could not see him walk a free man as he passed away in 2005 while Sanjay finally came out of prison in 2016 after serving his prison sentence. He was kidnapped by the dacoits from the sets of his father's film Mujhe Jeene Do which was released in 1963. He was returned unharmed the next day.
He went to college with the controversial former Miss India Pamela Bordes.
He was also involved with a Filipino girl who worked as an air hostess with Saudi Airlines in 1985. The girl was based out of Frankfurt and her name was Sha.
Veteran actor Rajendra Kumar who was a close friend of Sunil Dutt wanted Sanjay to marry his younger daughter Kaajal in 1986.
He was the first choice to play Mangal Pandey in Ketan Mehta's film called Kissa Kartoos which was scheduled to start in 1996 and Manisha Koirala was supposed to be the female lead. But, due to his legal troubles, the film never got made and it was later on rechristened as Mangal Pandey: The Rising.
He is extremely popular in Nigeria and the fans there lovingly call him Da Daba Mai Lasin which means Hooligan with a license (based on his character in Vaastav).
He won a gold medal in the US at an Air Guitar Competition and can also play the Tabla.
He also loves to cook and has a special dish called Chicken Sanju Baba named after him at a Mumbai eatery where he has been eating since 1986. He has given the recipe of Chicken Sanju Baba and only shared it with the chefs in 2010.
