One of the most epic serials of the 90s kids was Mahabharat by B. R. Chopra. Remember the opening tune with baritone voice : "Main Samay Hun" ? Yes, we are talking about those days. The time when if the screen got blurred, the kids were sent upstairs to fix the tall antenna. The time when everyone would gather in the same room to watch one of the biggest TV serials in the history of Indian Television which has become iconic in itself through these years.
Starting from 2nd October 1988 and ending on 24th June 1990, B. R. Chopra's Mahabharat became the definition of magnificence. Not only this serial, its characters also became one of the most loved and respected characters in the history of TV. The impact of this serial was so much that the actors playing the central roles were remembered forever as their characters. It has been 26 years since this serial ended, but its cult status remains where it was.
It was produced by B. R. Chopra and scripted by Dr. Raahi Masoom Raza. In UK it was aired by BBC where it was watched by 50 lakh people, which is a significantly high number considering those times. Total cost of producing this series was 9 Crore rupees, and it was repeatedly telecasted in the upcoming decades as well.
