Bollywood Box-Office 2019: Here Is The Extended Weekend Collection Of The Highest Grossing Films Of The Year!

While some biggies did fail to do well at the box-office., it is continuing last year’s tradition of content driven films leaving a mark at the BO. The highest grossing films of the year- Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh and Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike, are actually mid range films that gained pace after great reviews and word-of-mouth!
But there are also the general big releases, the ones that aim to encash the holidays to their favour. There have been a number of releases that had extended weekend collections. Right from Holi to Eid to Independence Day to the recent Gandhi Jayanti, films have been minting money with extended weekends. But how much has the highest grossing films really benefitted from the extended weekends? Check out the weekend collection of some of the highest grossing films of 2019, ranked.
Rank 6: Kalank
The film released on Wednesday and even though the Alia Bhatt- Varun Dhawan starrer had started out well, negative reviews fizzled out the film at the box-office. The film collected 66.03 crores in a 5 day extended Weekend.
Rank 5: Gully Boy
The film released on Valentine’s Day, which was a Thursday. Thanks to Ranveer Singh’s appeal and Alia Bhatt’s avatar, people wanted to see this one and positive reviews kept people going. In the 4 day extended weekend, it collected 72.45 crores.
Rank 4: Kesari
The Holi release of the year also enjoyed a 4-day extended weekend. Thanks to Akshay Kumar’s appeal, the film made 78.07 crores till Weekend 1!
Rank 3: Mission Mangal
Again, Akshay Kumar was the winner for this Independence Day release! Akshay Kumar has made Independence Day his own and fans were curious what he would have to offer this year. The film about Mangalayan, India’s Mission to Mars, was Akshay’s biggest opener and in the 4-day extended weekend, it collected a good 97.56 crores!
Rank 2: Bharat
Salman Khan and Eid go hand-in-hand. It has now become a tradition that Salman would have Eidi for his fans and his Eid releases become a festival in itself, with fans flocking outside the theatres. Bharat is one of the highest grossing films of the year and it the 5-day extended weekend, it collected a whopping 150 crores. Post the first weekend, the film actually slowed down.

Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff are undoubtedly two of the best action stars we have in Bollywood. So when a film that had both was announced, fans’ excitement knew no bounds. The film released on Gandhi Jayanti and right from becoming the highest opener of Bollywood ever, the film also became the one with the highest first weekend collection. Thanks to Hrithik-Tiger mania, the film has already minted 166.25 crores in total!
