Will Bengali Film Industry Be Able To Win Back Its Glory With Amazon Obhijaan?
Updated : December 01, 2017 03:19 PM ISTFor those who love cinema beyond its entertainment value would know the place Bengali cinema holds in the history of filmmaking. Right from filmmakers like Satyajit Ray to Ritwik Ghatak, or actors like Uttam Kumar, Suchitra Sen, or the more contemporary Shaswata Chatterjee, the film industry can boast of a rich heritage and a pool of talent. But compared to other regional industries like Tamil, Telugu or even Marathi, the Bengali film industry is not as popular today as it should be.
But it looks like Bengali cinema has started taking the leap. In the last few years, many popular Bengali films were remade in Bollywood, but they failed to create the expected impact. But SVF production house is all set to take a leap to the next level. They will be making a grand release for their upcoming venture, ‘Amazon Obhijaan’.
The film won’t be unknown to the Bengali cine-goers, who had been waiting for it ever since it was announced. The film is the sequel to the cinematic adaptation of Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay’s ‘Chander Pahar’.
Amazon Obhijaan will be the first Bengali film to be released in 6 languages- Bengali, Hindi, Assamese, Odia, Tamil and Telugu.
The trailer, that was released today has already generated a buzz. The trailer looks absolutely mind-boggling. The graphics are of much superior quality and the trailer promises an adrenalin filled experience in the world’s largest rainforest. The lead actor, Dev, also looks all beefed up for his part this time. Even without uttering a word in the trailer, he created a huge impact!
The scale has also been turned a notch higher with the production amount scaling up to 25 crores. The Bengali film industry has indeed put a lot on stake, but hopefully, this will turn successful, much like it’s the previous installment.
The Chander Pahar series had been creating records ever since its inception. The first film, that released in 2013, was the first film to be shot extensively in South Africa. The film was received extremely well by the audience. It was made with a budget of 15 crores, which has the biggest till date and also collected a record-smashing 21 crores despite releasing alongside Dhoom 3.
Will Amazon Obhijaan be able to fight it out with releases like Tiger Zinda Hai on the same day? Only time will tell! Meanwhile check out the Hindi trailer here:
