Box Office: Here’s How Akira Has Refused To Give Up At Ticket Counters
Updated : September 05, 2016 07:17 PM ISTHaving taken a relatively underwhelming start at the box office on its opening day, a lot was riding on Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira to show some signs of persistence at the box office. As it turns out, the film hasn’t completely disappointed and succumbed to the mixed word of mouth it has received from the masses. Going by its performance in its opening weekend, Akira hasn’t been a lost-case yet.
Collecting a moderate 5.15 crores on Friday, the film showed some very marginal growth on Saturday and earned 5.30 crores on Saturday. However, the film did show some significant growth on Sunday by raking 6.20 crores. The film’s opening weekend collections have now come at 16.65 crores. While the numbers don’t look as bad as one may think, the distributors would still not be considering themselves safe.
#Akira shows 16.98% growth on Sun... Fairly good trending... Fri 5.15 cr, Sat 5.30 cr, Sun 6.20 cr. Total: ₹ 16.65 cr. India biz.

The AR Murugadoss directorial will now have to perform well on weekdays to warrant some strength. For a female centric film that doesn’t particularly have a lot of big names, Akira has indeed showed some promise, however given its hype and production cost, the film should at least raise its tally to a respectable total of 25 crores at least. With Freaky Ali and Baar Baar Dekho slated to hit the screens this week, all Akira has got is four more days to perform as good as it can.
