Throwback: The Time Hrithik Roshan Destroyed Shah Rukh Khan In A Box Office Clash
Updated : January 20, 2017 08:40 PM ISTFrom a neutral perspective, box office clashes are utterly fascinating. In the past few years, when two big-budgeted, highly marketed films open on the same day and fight for audiences' attention, it is a spectacle in itself. But Box Office clashes are not a thing that has popped up in the recent years but fight between Bollywood stars always has always caught the attention of everyone.
Which takes us back to the year 2000.
In the January of 2000, Hrithik Roshan made his debuted in Rajesh Roshan's Kaho Naa... Pyar Hai. The movie made the actor a superstar and gave him loads of critical success, including two Filmfares.
But the fact that the blockbuster competed with Shah Rukh Khan's Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani at the box office is relatively unknown.
Yes, Kaho Naa... Pyar Hai's release date 14 Jan 2000, almost coincided with SRK's Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani's release date, which was 21 Jan. And it was the debutant's movie that set the box office on fire and not SRK's release that came on top.
Shah Rukh Khan's film earned Rs 10.25 crore and was considered a flop, while Hrithik's movie earned Rs 44.79 crore and is considered a blockbuster by trade analysts.
What's more?
Aamir Khan's Mela also released at the same time at BO, but was also defeated by Hrithik Roshan's starrer. Aamir Khan's film released on January 7, 2000.
