These Actors Rejected Fawad Khan's Role In Kapoor & Sons!
Updated : April 18, 2016 01:53 PM ISTAfter Kapoor & Sons released, Fawad's role in the movie was really appreciated by Bollywood stars and the audience. But, did you know there were as many as 6 actors who rejected this role?
Yes, this happened. In a recent interview with Bombay Times, Karan Johar revealed how it was a difficult task for him to finalise an actor for this role. He said "Kapoor and Sons’ (Since 1921) was a tough film to cast. There was a point when we almost didn’t make it. We kept it on the backburner for over a year. No one was willing to do Fawad Khan’s role. We went to six actors and after six rejections, I told Shakun that we should drop the idea and he started developing another screenplay. Later, in a flash of thought Fawad came to my mind. I sent him the script, he loved it and said he would do it. Subsequently, I went to Sidharth Malhotra. I was surprised Alia Bhatt agreed to do the role. The script is not positioned around her, yet, she has a strong part. For us she is an in-house talent at Dharma. I am glad she had the foresight and I hope more actors look out for good films rather than ask, ‘What is my part' ?"
Some of these stars rejected the role because they were afraid to play "homosexual" on-screen. This left us wondering why these A-listers didn't want to play the role? After all, we saw most of them stand up against Section 377. But is it easier said than done?
According to the film critic, Rajeev Masand, these are the Bollywood stars who rejected this role-
1. Saif Ali Khan
We just want to ask you one question Saif, is it easier to crossdress than play a gay character? We are really confused here!
2. Shahid Kapoor
When Shahid heard the role, that's how he would have reacted -
3. Hrithik Roshan
Homophobic much? We didn't see this coming.
4. Aditya Roy Kapur
After the success of Kapoor & Son's, Aditya is like, "Sun raha hai na tu, Ro raha hun main!"
5. Farhan Akhtar
Farhan, whom Shakun had assisted previously, said he loved the film but didn’t see himself playing the older sibling. Well, he was the most professional and upfront of the lot!
Good for Fawad Khan, we must say!
P.S - He did complete justice to the character and it won't be wrong to say that he was the right choice!
