Sunny Deol is arguably one of the greatest action heroes of Bollywood of all time. Actually, we have already made that case at length before. We know it might seem ridiculous now, given how several young actors have grabbed our attention as of late, but at point, he was among the best actors in the industry, if not country.

Winner of two National awards, the actor has been involved in several iconic movies of the the 90's. Though most of them involved him indulging in violence, but if you look closely you see subtle and distinct differences.

#6 GADAR: EK PREM KATHA

Besides delivering one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema through Gadar, Sunny Deol also made a statement of how proficient he was as an actor even in 2001. If any actor in India could convince us that uprooting a hand pump was indeed possible, it was Sunny Deol and no one else. The character of Tara Singh will go down as one of the strongest roles in the history, all thanks to Sunny Macho Deol!

#5 GHATAK

You can’t get this film out of your head even if you only watch it once. As a calm and innocent man who turns lethal in the angst of situation, Sunny was able to evoke enough emotions through Ghatak. This one in particular gets remembered for its raw, impactful and powerful dialogues. Cheer Dunga, Phaad Dunga, remember?

#4 ARJUN PANDIT

Sunny Deol as a gangster was very cool, however a self-righteous man turning into a hardcore hooligan was the coolest. The two different shades of performance that Sunny emoted through his range of expressions was as good as it could get. His simplistic touch under the tough projection was moving, exciting and also funny.

#3 BORDER

It’s tough to picture anybody else portraying Major Kudeep in Border. Everything about the blockbuster that’s been made iconic has got everything to do with Sunny Deol.  The rusty dialogues, the battlefield aggression, the frustration of failure and the patriotic mania came together to deliver one of Sunny Deol’s most memorable performances.

#2 DAMINI

How would you describe a performance that was originally intended to be a cameo but ended up over shadowing every aspect of the movie? Sunny Deol as Govind in Damini did exactly that. As a dejected lawyer having given up on the system to solidifying a fight back to earn a woman her honor, Sunny Deol put all of his effort in making Damini so special. From dialogues like Taareekh Pe Taareekh to Dhai Kilo Ka Hath, Sunny asserted his power of acting that stays with us forever.

#1 GHAYAL

One of the early prospects in the long filmy journey of Sunny Deol, Ghayal brought him in the league of accomplished actors bigtime. As a young guy fighting hard to avenge the death of his elder brother, Sunny surprised everyone with his acting ability. The performance that won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor and a Special Jury Mention at National Awards , Ghayal is a feather in his hat that speaks volumes of his caliber.
