5 Box Office Records That Prove That PK Is The Biggest Bollywood Film Ever
Updated : December 19, 2016 04:44 PM ISTIn 2014, Rajkumar Hirani's PK, starring Aamir Khan, created history. The satirical comedy-drama revolves around an alien who gets stranded in India and accidently uncovers the different superstitions involved with the followers of different religions. The movie, despite being far away from being the best film of the year, was commercially successful. And by successful we mean IT RULED BOX OFFICE.
Funnily, it was the second collaboration between the actor-director. 3 Idiots, which released in 2009, was also a commercial sensation. But PK outdid that film and nearly every film that has ever been made in the country.
You don't have to take a word for it. Instead, let these records -- which were broken by the film -- tell you how big a film the film actually is.
1. PK is the first Indian film to gross Rs 700 crore worldwide. In fact, it is gross collection is close to Rs 800 crore.
2. Upon its release, it became the first Indian film to cross Rs 300 crore domestically. Only Salman Khan's Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan has crossed that barrier.
3. At Rs 337 crore, it holds the record for the highest domestic gross by an Indian film.
4. It has earned $19.5 million dollars in China, which is largest any Indian film has earned in a single overseas territory.
5. It was released on 5200 screens in India, which is the highest number of screens by a Bollywood film.
