Will History Repeat Itself?
Updated : April 06, 2016 11:02 AM ISTThis is not the first time when Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali will meet on the big screen. They have met before and now the history will repeat itself.
8 years ago Saawariya was pitted against Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om (the same film that launched Deepika Padukone), and now after 8 years Deepika Padukone starrer Bajirao Mastani is releasing with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer Dilwale. The clash is being termed as one of the biggest clashes of the year. Reason being - two big budget and big stars films, which are absolutely different from each other are standing in each others way.
Let's find out whose cart was heavier then.
1. Saawariya was a quintessential Sanjay Leela Bhansali film that released with Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om in the year 2007. Where Om Shanti Om earned a swooping amount of Rs 78.17 crore, Saawariya was barely appreciated by the audience and the gross amount struggled to cross the mark of Rs 20 crore. The amount invested was hardly recovered, Saawariya had a budget of 400 million and Om Shanti Om had spent 350 million in the production of the film.
2. While Om Shanti Om had Shah Rukh Khan's name attached to it, Saawariya was sailing in with new sailors. Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, Kapoor kids vs the King of Bollywood. Shah Rukh had launched Deepika Padukone with this project and she got a great opening. However, the acting of all these stars was highly appreciated and Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor won the Filmfare for the best debutant.
3. But what generally decides the fate of actors is the box office collection and audience response. Om Shanti Om had an average audience rating of 4.2 and Saawariya was left behind with 2.6 user rating. What came as a shock was, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had created Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky's 'White Night' on screen and the story of Om Shanti Om was written by Farah Khan and co-produced by Red Chillies Entertainment.
4. While Om Shanti Om saw almost the entire industry in their title track 'Om Shanti Om', the only big stars associated with SBL's production were Rani Mukherjee and Salman Khan.
5. However, the music of both the films was highly appreciated and loved. But again what reached the audience was Om Shanti Om.
Now, after 8 years the two have come against each other yet again, with the change of Deepika joining SLB clan.
The battle has begun and the horses have been aligned. But only time shall declare the winner.
