Roles That Won Our Hearts Not Awards!
Updated : April 06, 2016 11:03 AM ISTWe often crib that good cinema is not a regular feature of our industry but what we forget to point out is that due credit is not given these film whenever they are made. And by credit, we mean the physical trophy of appreciation given in different names. Filmfare, Stardust, IIFA and all the award ceremonies are held to please the stars. With the current scenario of every industry, we are feeding the stars and the actors are starved. And that is what kills the hunger.
When the Filmfare nominations were announced one of the biggest films of 2015 were missing from the nomination list, forget about winning they weren't even acknowledged. The films which did great at the box office and were critically acclaimed become the Best Film, but a scenario has always been pretty different. And when it comes to awarding Best Actor, Best Actress, Supporting Actor and others, big names are preferred over "abundance of talent".
How on earth could otherwise Sooraj Pancholi win the Best Debutant award for 'Hero' when films like 'Titli and 'Masaan' had great newcomers in the names of Shashank Arora and Vicky Kaushal though it can be argued that Masaan wasn't his debut, but Shashank Arora? Similarly, actresses like Kalki Koechlin and Richa Chadha were missing from the list of Best actress. Same goes for these films, the films which had substance were kept on the corner or given a mention in the speech but what they couldn't get was the lady in black or any other award for that matter.
Our awards have always chosen the biggies over the not-so-influential and that has been the part of the trend. However, in our view, these actors deserved to win an award in various categories.
