6 Bollywood Sequels That Wonderfully Carried Forward The Original Story
Updated : May 16, 2017 05:45 PM ISTWe are not a country that produces excellent movie series in any way! While most of the sequels cringe about the fact that it’s spoiling the original, the rest merely cash in on the brand value that a successful film garners over the years. Sit back, relax and ask yourself – did we really need a Murder 2 & 3? Was there a connection between Aashiqui 1 & 2? Does four parts of Raaz series justify its rebooting over and over again? The answer is plain and simple – NO!
So yes we are not so well proficient in converting a good movie in a good series. However, filmmakers over the years have kept trying and have indeed shed out some sequels that did enough justice to its original. Our idea here is to list those sequels that started off from where the last film ended and took it further in an equally engaging style.
Here are 5 Bollywood sequels that took the story forward in a good way:
Phir Hera Pheri
While Hera Pheri has registered itself as one of the cult classic comedies, the sequel that came out five years after its release carried forward the same narrative. Despite a new director, the film was able to maintain its consistency and recreate the same madness. The reason it features in the list is because it was able to dwell into its original story and bring out an equally entertaining movie.
Krrish
The first Indian superhero came at the behest of being a sequel to India’s first alien movie. Though Krrish was a completely different film in its story and treatment when compared to Koi Mil Gaya, the connect still remained very evident to the original. Despite being a film about a superhero and his conquest for love, Krrish shifted focus to the original story taking us all by surprise.
Don 2
We may not have enticed this idea of remaking the Bachchan starrer classic in 2006 but the sequel that came out in 2011 was not bad at all. SRK was in his element in the sequel as an underworld Don and Farhan made sure he didn’t make a mockery of the original story. While Don ended with SRK tricking everyone into believing that he isn’t really Don, the sequel starts off with the same thread. In a way, the film was a better product than the original.
Dabangg 2
A slightly underwhelming affair when put in contrast to the first part, Dabanng 2 still didn’t take the easy way out of setting up a new canvas altogether. With the exact same cast along with a new villain, the film was as entertaining as it could have been. Salman Khan as Chulbul Pandey was one character who deserved to be reintroduced to the audiences.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns
One of the best sequels to have been made in Bollywood, this mesmerizing drama was a sequel in true sense and a far superior product than its first part. While Kangana Ranaut single handedly stole this show away, the natural progression of its story set a few years later made for a wonderful movie watching experience.
Baahubali 2: The Conclusion
After Bahubali the beginning left us curious for 2 long years as to why Kattapa killed Baahubali, S.S. Rajamouli ensured that the film was worth the wait for the fans. He brought back a more grand story to the fans, which was seamlessly carried forward and was aesthetically more pleasing. The film has so far broken all box office records that existed in India.
So next time when you think of the idea called ‘Sequels,’ know that a story has to be carried forward, nothing else!
