When Bollywood Celebs Clarified Rumours Under Tremendous Pressure
Updated : May 16, 2017 10:47 AM ISTWhat’s the general trend on social media these days? A celebrity says or writes something which goes viral; next you see mixed or erratic reactions around it. Followed by these reactions there’s always one celeb who gets horribly offended from this post/view and he or she cashes on this trend to get some popularity for free. Net you either see a war of words, or you see a celeb giving interviews clarifying their statement. In a nutshell, it’s a well-structured mess.
But who benefits from this? None we’d say!
For instance, the most recent example is Shah Rukh Khan’s TED Talk where he brought up the rumour about AbRam being his eldest son Aryan’s love child. On an international stage where we were all ears to hear SRK’s first TED Talk, none of us expected that he’d address this issue in his talk. SRK said, ““Four years ago, my lovely wife Gauri and me decided to have a third child. It was claimed on the net that he was the love child of our first child who was 15 years old. Apparently, he had sown his wild oats with a girl while driving her car in Romania. And yeah, there was a fake video to go with it. And we were so disturbed as a family. My son, who is 19 now, even now when you say “hello” to him, he just turns around and says, “But bro, I didn’t even have a European driving license.”
The point here is, as a parent it must have been out rightly disturbing for him to have heard or read this, but at some point of time, our stars need to stop giving into the pressure of being answerable to public about such things.
When it comes to having the privilege of being a celebrity who can be politically correct, our latest example is Mira Rajput Kapoor who expressed that, “I wouldn't want to spend one hour a day with my child and rush off to work. Why did I have her (daughter Misha)? She is not a puppy, you know. I want to be there for her as a mother.” Later on media and online users went crazy deconstructing this statement. In a recent interview (which looked like a desperate attempt to pour water over fire) Mira covered up saying, “I was just speaking my mind, my intention was not to offend or hurt anyone. Could I have chosen my words better? Maybe. But I am not a seasoned actor and I don't know how to be politically correct. I was speaking for a section of women who aren't given their due.”
If we go a little back in time, October 2016, when we witnessed the entire fiasco of Pakistani artists getting banned from Bollywood, it was mind numbing to see a stellar filmmaker like Karan Johar succumbing to pressure and releasing an apology video, which was not needed at all. He shot his film way back before this happened, and the controversies and destruction surrounding its release took a toll on Karan. He did an absolutely unneeded video to clarify and apologize for an issue which wasn’t his fault at all! He later regretted doing it and expressed that it was one of the lowest points of his life.

Following the hoopla around Pakistani artists, apparently SRK went to meet MNS chief to seek an undisputed and safe release of Raees which starred Pakistani actress Mahira Khan. Again, this wasn’t needed. Why is Bollywood succumbing to pressures which don’t deserve such grave apologies and fearful approach towards something that’s legitimate?
Or the simplest recent example is online users speculating that John Abraham was the first choice for Baahubali, not Rana Daggubati. Rana had to tweet to clarify that this wasn’t true!

On a lighter note, especially when it comes to private matters, the industry should learn from Salman Khan. He’s never gone back on his words, he’s still a virgin and doesn't give two hoots about what the world thinks of him!
