Here's How Aamir Khan's Dangal Can Become The Highest Grossing Bollywood Film Of All Time
Updated : December 22, 2016 02:21 PM ISTWill Aamir Khan's Dangal smash box office records?
Aamir Khan's Dangal is undoubtedly among the most anticipated movies in the recent years. Two years in the making, the film is Mr. Perfectionist's follow-up to the mightily successful PK. Nitesh Tiwari, who has previously made critically acclaimed Chillar Party and Bhootnath Returns, now teams up with the incredible story of Mahavir Phogat and his talented daughters.
And now, as the film is all set to open in theaters worldwide, it is worth debating about how much will actually earn at the box office.
According to reports by several trade analysts, the film is set to have an opening day in the region of Rs 25-30 crore. To put that in perspective, Salman Khan's Sultan -- which is the biggest opener of 2016 -- grossed Rs 36.54 crore on its opening day. It is worth noting that the Aamir Khan film is releasing when the country is jostling with demonetisation policy. It is also worth noting that Salman Khan film released on a holiday (Eid), which somewhat decreases the overall gross of a film.
But let's look at the bigger picture.
Aamir Khan's Dangal is expected to mint Rs 90-100 crore in first three days, which will put in the biggest opening weekends of all time. It will only be a few crore shy of Sultan's three-day collection (since it had a five day weekend).
It is worth noting that PK, which is the highest grossing film of all time, earned Rs 92 crore in its first three days. Interestingly, that is less than Rs 104 crore in first three days that Sultan earned.
And if Dangal has to earn that title, it not only needs to get a very good opening. But it also needs excellent word of mouth, which can carry the film past the film the demonetisation trouble. And given the early reviews that the film is getting, it's possible.
