Here's Why Akshay And Not Salman Is The Real Box Office SULTAN!
Updated : August 17, 2016 05:23 PM ISTAkshay’s habit of doing more than a handful of movies in a calendar year is finally going to land him a record that will put him in a league of his own. Over the past few years when he’s delivered films that excelled at the box office, he’s followed it up with a flop. Despite being the proud owner of as many as four 100 crore grossers, Akshay could somehow not show the kind of consistency Aamir, Salman or Shah Rukh are known for projecting.
However still, Akshay does more films and has a higher rate of success if his past few works are put in perspective. Now, the record that we are talking about is something special. Having already registered two 100 crore grossers this year in the looks of Airlift and Housefull 3, Akshay has had back to back centurions for the first time. Sailing in through this unprecedented wave of box office moolah, he is now on the verge of having his third straight film entering the 100 crore club in one calendar year. With Rustom’s relentless box office campaign going strong, Akshay Kumar will become the first actor to hit the hat trick of 100 crore grossers in a year. Isn’t this an enviable record in all prospects?
Yeah I know what Salman fans would have to their rescue as a statement: Sultan did 300 crores and Salman doesn’t need three films to earn this much. But, going by the fact of the matter, this is indeed is some serious feat coming Akshay’s way. In a year where the likes Shah Rukh and now Hrithik have terribly struggled to even touch the gate of the coveted club, our Khiladi is going all forces with third entrant on the trot.
Here’s how he previously fared in terms of consistency and 100 crore prospects ever since he first earned his 100 crore grosser:

And here we are in 2016 where after Airlift and Housefull 3, his film Rustom is most likely to be third film storming into the 100 crore club. Both Salman and Shah Rukh have had two films in the same year going past the 100 crore mark. Here’s what the history looks like:
Salman Khan
2011
Ready & Bodyguard
2012
Ek Tha Tiger & Dabangg 2
2015
Bajrangi Bhaijaan & Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
Shah Rukh Khan
2011
Ra.One & Don 2
Ajay Devgn
2012
Bol Bachchan & Son Of Sardaar
The numbers are clearly indicative of the fact that our very own Rustom is pretty close to register himself as the sole proprietor of a 100 crore hat trick in the same year. This indeed is a big deal considering not many actors can adjust their schedules in such a way that shedding out three or more films in a year becomes a possibility. While Akshay has been consistently doing so many movies for so many years, he’s converting it into tangible success now. It’s just a matter of time now!
With 2.0, Jolly LLB 2 and Crack already lined for next year, can he repeat the hat trick? He just may!
