Minnaminungu And Manhole To Be Screened At Indian Film Festival Melbourne 2017
Updated : July 31, 2017 12:19 PM IST Indian Film Festival Melbourne 2017 is all set to take place in Melbourne, Australia, where a host of Bollywood films will be screened. Apart from Bollywood movies, there are two award-winning Malyalam films, Minnaminungu and Manhole, which will also be screened at the festival. The festival will take place on August 10 and will go on till 22.
Manhole won two awards, Best Film and Best Director awards, at the Kerala State Film Awards 2016, making Vidhu Vincent, the director of the movie, the first woman to win the Best Director award in the 47-year-old history of Kerala State Awards. The story of the flick revolves around the daughter of a manual scavenger. Manhole marks Vidhu Vincent’s debut as a director. It stars Renu Soundar, Ravi Kumar and Shylaja J in vital roles.
Minnaminugu, which is helmed by Anil Thomas, is based on a relationship between a single mother and daughter. It narrates the story of Charu, the daughter, who tries to migrate to Canada with her boyfriend without revealing anything to her mother. Thinking that her daughter is moving to the country with the aim of pursuing higher studies, the mother does odd jobs to make both ends meet. She accumulates Rs 6 lakh for her daughter’s studies. Actress Surabhi Lakshmi plays the role of a mother who won the Best Actress award at the 64th National film awards for the role.
A total to 60 Indian films will be screened at the festival. Alankrita Srivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha will be the opening movie at the fest.
