Here's Why Best Actress Nominee, Natalie Portman Will Not Be Attending The Academy Awards!

Actress Natalie Portman who has been nominated in the best actress category for Jackie will not attend the 89th Oscars this year due to her pregnancy. The 35-year-old actress announced last year in September that she was expecting her second child with husband Benjamin Millepied. They are already parents to a 5-year-old son, Aleph.

Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards. I feel so lucky to be honoured among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends," said the Goya's Ghosts actress. However, this is not the first time that the actress has been nominated for the Academy Awards in pregnancy. In 2011, she received an Oscar for best actress for her performance in the thriller Black Swan when she was pregnant with her first child.

Moreover, the actress has been nominated for best female lead at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. In the movie Jackie, Natalie played the first former First Lady of the US, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. The movie depicts her life after the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy.
