Lily Collins Ain’t Happy About Being Complimented For Losing Weight In ‘To the Bone’
Updated : July 02, 2017 07:00 PM IST Marti Noxon’s drama comedy ‘To the Bone’ touched upon an eating disorder known as anorexia nervosa. The film starred Lily Collins as Ellen, a girl who battled the problem. The actress has earlier talked about her uncertainty about signing the film when she was approached for the role. She suffered from the disorder in her real life and was quite close to the issue.
While the audience complimented Lily for losing weight, as she had to fit to her role, the actress doesn’t approve of such admiration. Recently, she revealed being shocked when she was appreciated for shedding kilos to play an anorexic woman. “I was leaving my apartment one day and someone I've known for a long time, my mom's age, said to me, 'Oh, wow, look at you!’”, said Lily in an interview.
“I tried to explain (I lost weight for a role) and she goes, 'No! I want to know what you're doing, you look great!' I got into the car with my mom and said, 'That is why the problem exists’”, added the Mirror Mirror actress. Lily says she understands how the disorder affects people and so, it was quite tough for her to play her part. “There's a scene where I'm taking my clothes off to be weighed by Carrie Preston, my stepmom in the movie, who takes a photo on her phone and shows it to me. I didn't think she'd actually take one but she did”, the actress recalled.
“I saw myself in the photo and my heart dropped. So when my mom saw the film, she saw Lily's reaction because she knows me the best”, Lily stated, adding, “The first time she was a bit in shock. The second time I looked over at the end and she was sobbing; it really hit her hard”.
Earlier, the actress has revealed that Noxon and the team made sure to make her feel comfortable throughout the film’s shooting.
