Judgement Pauses Enforcement on IMDb Actor Age Censorship Law
Updated : February 23, 2017 06:48 PM ISTIn its latest judgement, U.S. District Court Judge Vince Chhabria has granted IMDb a preliminary injuction against the case filed by Claifornia’s legislation. This required this online movie database website firm to remove an actor’s age, if requested by the actor.
In its judgement, Chhabria ruled, “It’s difficult to imagine how AB 1687 could not violate the First Amendment. He went on by saying, “The statute prevents IMDb from publishing factual information (information about the ages of people in the entertainment industry) on its website for public consumption”.
IMDb, is a subsidiary of Amazon, which contended in its suit, that the law which applied only to subscription sites such as IMDb Pro, was unconstitutional. On the otherside, SAG-AFTRA, who was lobbying for the legislation said that they will continue to fight for their case.
