Ian McKellen Supports Lack Of Oscar Diversity Debate
Updated : April 06, 2016 11:03 AM IST Lord of the Rings franchise actor Ian McKellen has shown his support for the lack of disparity in the Oscar nominees. The veteran actor stated that he can sympathize with the people who feel left out. For the second year, no ethnic minority actors or actresses were nominated for the top Oscar awards.
Ian stated, “I think you have to live in Hollywood, where the Oscars mean so much more than they do elsewhere, to understand why people's feelings are running so high. And the fact that black people feel under-represented in studio movies and big movies, well, it's what women thought for a long time, it's what gay people like myself still think”. He added, “And it's a legitimate complaint and the Oscars has become the focus of those worries, so I sympathize”.
The actor was last seen in the 2015 film Mr. Holmes where he played the role of Sherlock Holmes. He is known for his roles as Magneto in the X-Men franchise and Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings.
