Guess What? Mel Gibson Almost Passed On His Braveheart Role

The epic 1995 film ‘Braveheart’ starred Mel Gibson as a 13th-century Scottish warrior named William Wallace. The movie was directed by him as well and was one of the best movies of that time. Recently, while talking about his upcoming directorial ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, the actor-director revealed that he almost passed on his role in Braveheart.

The 60-year-old stated that Bill Mechanic, the producer of ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, sent him the script for the film twice and he passed it both times. Remembering this, he revealed that he did a similar thing with Braveheart. “Well, I did that with Braveheart. I passed on it. I kind of liked it and I thought maybe... I don’t know. One reason or another.Then, it’s like what happened with this one. The wheels start going around and you start visualising it. They didn’t offer Braveheart to me to direct, anyway. They offered it for me to star in”, Mel said.

His upcoming project is a biographical war film based on the true story about US Army medic Desmond T. Doss. It stars Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Teresa Palmer and Luke Bracey. ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ will be released on November 4, sharing the box office cake with ‘Doctor Strange’.
