Shah Rukh Khan lands in new trouble over sex determination issue
Updated : May 01, 2014 03:10 PM ISTIndian Radiological and Imaging Associations (IRIA) has taken offence over the latest reports that Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are expecting a baby boy. The reports hint that the baby’s sex is known even before its birth.
As reported by a leading daily, the state health department has been urged by the association to probe into the reports which claim that the baby to arrive in SRK’s family through surrogacy will be a male. The reports with the claims that the baby will be a boy is not yet confirmed by SRK as last week he only said that he planned to have a boy through surrogacy. Dr Jignesh Thakkar, the coordinator for the Pre-Conception Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, IRIA, stated, “We have written to the state health department to find out how the actor came to know about the unborn child’s sex when sex determination is illegal in India.”
As reports surfaced lately that disproportionate sex ratio is an emerging problem in the entire state including Mumbai, radiologists have been put under constant scrutiny for illegal activities of sex determination. Dr Sanjeev Mani, senior radiologist, Holy Family Hospital, Bandra, said, “Though filling of form F [mandatory while conducting an ultrasound] has nothing to do with sex determination, radiologists are caught for it under the act.” The email from IRIA has been sent to the top state health department officials, including state health minister Suresh Shetty, and it has demanded that a detailed investigation is required in this case and if anyone is found guilty, proper action should be taken. Doctors have also claimed that in case of celebrities law is often broken. As per Thakkar, “If news reports are true then it is a clear that the celebrities can get away with breaking the law.”
