‘Once An Actor Always An Actor’, Says Darsheel Safary
Updated : September 12, 2016 05:45 PM IST Darsheel Safary gained fame after giving a fantastic performance as Ishaan Awasthi in Aamir Khan’s heart-wrenching drama flick Taare Zameen Par. He essayed the role of a dyslexic child in the same, which was praised by a large number of film critics. He has also earned several awards for his awe-inspiring performance in the film.
During a recent interview, the 19-year-old actor has talked about his phase as a child actor. He has done movies like Bumm Bumm Bole, Midnight's Children, among others, as juvenile. And after that, he took a clean break from acting. It was his father’s call to keep him away from the trappings of stardom so that he could concentrate on his studies. So, in Class 11 and 12 he has just befriended his books and not the cameras.
However, when Darsheel reached his late teenage, the acting’s bug bit him again. In college he has participated in various street plays, some 30-35. He was quoted as saying, “Once an actor always an actor, In college I found myself doing a lot of amateur theatre, also 30-35 street plays. I was hooked. I knew I wanted to be nothing but an actor now”.
The youngest actor in India is now all set to share theatre space with veteran actors Dalip Tahil and Ananth Mahadevan in Abhishek Pattnaik’s helmed play dubbed ‘Can I Help You?’ Darsheel is playing a character called Rikhab who is an angry, aggressive and resentful fast bowler. According to Darsheel, the play will help in becoming a mature actor and will also hone his acting skills.
When asked, if he is interested in coming back to Bollywood, he said, “Oh absolutely. But I am not in a hurry. I am only 19. I won’t sign a predictable teenybopper debut where I have to dance and sing and romance a chick. I want a debut as a leading man that would be a worthy follow-up to ‘Taare Zameen Par’. In the meanwhile I am committed to my play for two years”.
Well, Desimartini wishes him all the best for his future ventures.
