If the content is good, the medium doesn’t matter: Nimrat Kaur
Updated : May 15, 2017 09:53 AM ISTAfter enthralling the small screen with international shows like Homeland and Wayward Pines, Nimrat’s recently launched web-series, where she plays an army officer is being talked about. The Test Case, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor is about a woman who plays a combat officer in the web series.
For Nimrat, it was a personally fulfilling journey to play an army officer because her father served in the Indian Army. The subject was what intrigued her to take on the show, says Nimrat.
“If the content is good, the medium doesn’t matter. Of course with the internet you have the advantage of being more life-like because TV is a sanitised medium. There is no censorship on the internet but we are not exploiting that. It would be childish to do that. It is just liberating to operate at a level where you can just be real- as far as your reactions and emotions are concerned.”
There was speculation that the Airlift actor has signed on another international TV show, but she denies it. “That is incorrect news. I haven’t signed anything more than what I am working on,” she says. While she has managed to shy away from doing the ‘conventional Bollywood potboilers’, Nimrat says it is not a deliberate attempt. “I take up whatever interests me. It is not an effort and I can’t specifically pick ‘unconventional’ roles. I want to be able to play a dead body, a tree, an old man, a young woman – all of it. I want to do every role possible.” she says.

Nirmat Kaur had in an earlier interview to us admitted that she wanted to become an army officer. How did acting happen to her then? She says, “I wanted to join the army since I was a kid. But when I grew up, I realised that being in army required a lot of hard work. But since I am an army kid, I have moved a lot of cities but something that remained constant was the urge to perform on stage. I was always involved in performances in school and college but it wasn’t until college that I admitted this to myself. After that I knew that acting was what I enjoyed, I don’t think I had any doubts left.”
