Parineeti Chopra Talks About Being The New Golmaal Girl, Ajay Devgn, Her Upcoming Films And More!
Updated : May 25, 2017 11:25 AM ISTCome Diwali, Parineeti Chopra will officially become the new Golmaal girl, as the fourth instalment of the hit comedy franchise hits the big screen. HT catches up with the actor to talk about working with Ajay Devgn, Golmaal Again, and future projects.
How does it feel to be the new Golmaal girl and to work with superstar Ajay Devgn?
I absolutely love him. I want to sit next to Ajay sir and talk to him all the time, because he has the most interesting stories about the time he started working in films. He is such a big star, but he never makes you feel like he is. I already feel very friendly with him. It’s such an equal relationship despite the fact that I met him only recently and worked with him for just a month or two. But all the credit goes to him, as he has really made me feel like a part of the family and that I was one of them.
But it also must have been a great learning experience…
He is a big star and a great actor, so I also keep learning by seeing how he performs in front of the camera. He is just so amazing. I feel the most beautiful thing, for me, has been the realisation that he is a great guy. He is a really solid man who takes care of his family and his kids, whom he is in absolute love with. Plus, he takes care of all of us, including his co-stars and his friends. He wants to feed us, play with us and tease us, so he is an amazing guy to work with.
Besides Golmaal Again, what else have you signed?
It will be announced very soon. We are working on the announcement. I have multiple films and several offers, but one project that I have confirmed will be announced soon. I’ve also decided to do two films next year too, but those dates have not been worked out yet, so we are still in talks.
While working on Golmaal Again, have you gone crazy?
I think I was cast because I was sort of already a part of that crazy gang (laughs). But, I feel it’s a beautiful experience. Both, Rohit sir (Shetty) and Ajay sir (Devgn) are amazing. Rohit sir is easily one of the best directors. He works with a great team spirit. He is addicted to his team, his actors, his film and all the people involved with it. He needs them around him all the time and gives everyone so much love. There is great friendship between everybody, and, in fact, within a couple of days, I felt a part of that [film] family as I felt so comfortable with them.
Acting in such a comedy film must be new for you…
Yes, and so, the process of getting the correct sur (pitch) of acting for this kind of a film was a lovely learning (experience) for me. I am happy being part of this big, commercial film that’s going to release on Diwali. I am very excited for the festival since I feel everybody will watch this film. I think people will have a lot of fun. I am thankful (to the makers) that I am a part of this film.
A number of actors have been a constant part of Golmaal films over the years. Do you feel new in that sense?
I think I am a friendly person in general (smiles). It doesn’t take me long to befriend someone. All the actors –– be it Arshad (Warsi), Kunal (Kemmu), Tushar (Kapoor), Shreyas (Talpade) and the other boys – in the film were very welcoming. Also, Ajay sir and Rohit sir, who are such stalwarts, were like, ‘oh, you are a part of the gang now’. We are all in it together. There is a solid bond between all of us and it’s showing on the screen. We are also really helpful to each other vis-à-vis the movie’s scenes. They welcomed me so quickly into their family that I feel I have always been there.
You have spoken a lot about the break that you took from films. It must have required lot of courage.
I am glad if that’s the feeling because this means I am gutsy. But, if at the end of it, I hadn’t gotten work, I would have been quite stressed. But, now, I am doing Golmaal and, it’s one of the biggest films out there. So, touchwood, its going well and God is there.
