Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara turns 11: Shah Rukh, Hrithik & Vivek were initially cast together; Ranbir, Imran were also approached

One of the most iconic and re-watchable films made in the history of Bollywood, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara introduced us to three crazy friends, an epic road-trip and some very soulful songs 11 years ago. The story was unique and the picturesque locations satisfied our wanderlust. But the highlight was the ensemble star cast, which could not have been better! Hrithik Roshan aka Arjun left us drooling whereas Abhay Deol as Kabir was adorable. Farhan Akhtar as Imran, on the other hand, was the life of the party. Meanwhile Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin turned out to be the cherry on top!

But did you know this was not the original star cast? Buzz suggests that Farhan had initially decided to direct the film with Shah Rukh Khan , Hrithik Roshan and Vivek Oberoi in the lead as Arjun, Kabir and Imran. But SRK decided to drop out later and his role went to Hrithik. Abhay was roped in to play Kabir and Vivek’s role went to Farhan. But the film was shelved because the script was not finalized. Two years later Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti completed the script.

Zoya signed her brother Farhan for Imran’s role while Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan were approached for Arjun and Kabir’s characters. However, they passed the opportunity and in the end we got the final star cast which we absolutely love-- Hrithik, Abhay and Farhan as Arjun, Kabir and Imran. Each character made a place in our hearts and the performances left us wanting more. Even after 11 long years, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara continues to be one of the best movies to binge-watch over the weekend with friends and family.
