Witcher fans aren't impressed by showrunner Lauren Hissrich's response to fan backlash after Henry Cavill's departure

Ever since Henry Cavill 's departure from the Netflix Witcher series over creative differences with the team, fans have been calling out the showrunner Lauren Hissricha and her team of writers.

Adding fuel to the fire were the comments from a former writer on the show Beau DeMayo revealed that the showrunner and most of the writing staff actually hate the books by Andrzej Sapkowski on which the show is based.

This along with the announcement that actor Liam Hemsworth would be Cavill's replacement from season four of the show led to fans creating a petition on Change.org to bring back Henry and get rid of the writers instead.

The petition currently has over two hundred and seventy thousand supporters and counting.

During a recent interview with TechRadar (via SFFGazette.com) promoting the upcoming Witcher prequel series Showrunner Lauren Hissricha addressed the fan backlash and Henry Cavill's departure saying

"It's a big deal for us, too, and that's the thing – there's a lot of talk and rumors about and we fully understand why fans are going there."

Of course, this wasn't the response fans were hoping for and they made their disappointment clear especially when the writers of the show took to Twitter to praise Hissricha and her work on the series.

Fans had some funny reaction to the writing teams sudden praise for the showrunner and the quality of the series calling it "Damage Control"

With the fan base turning against it and the hype for Blood Origin really low, it is understandable why the creactive behind the show are trying to win back the fans but unfortunately for them it doesnt seem to be working. Perhaps Blood Origins could turn things around.

Blood Origin is a six-part series that is set 1,200 years before the events of the series and will focus on an event called the "Conjunction of the Spheres".

This leads to the appearance of the first Humans and monsters in the world and will focus on the group of outcasts and how their actions lead to the creation of the first Witcher.

The cast of the series includes Sophia Brown, Michelle Yeoh, Minnie Driver, Laurence O'Fuarain, Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, Nathaniel Curtis, and Dylan Moran with Joey Batey reprising his role as Jaskier from The Witcher .

Witcher: Blood Origin will stream on Netflix on December 25, 2022.
