Composer GV Prakash Kumar on Tuesday shared a picture of himself along with the main cast and crew of Thangalaan. The star-studded photo revealed that the producers have kick-started countrywide promotions for Thangalaan, which stars Tamil star Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role.

In the selfie clicked by Prakash, actors Vikram, Parvathy, Malavika Mohanan, director Pa Ranjith, and producer KE Gnanavel Raja were present. It seems that the photo was clicked against the backdrop of a specially designed set for Thangalaan promotions.

The producers of Thangalaan were waiting for the right holiday to release the movie in cinemas worldwide. Given that this film is the most expensive movie in Vikram's career, Gnanavel Raja kept his cards very close to his chest and was not willing to compromise on the release date. The team wanted a holiday that offered them an extended opening weekend, along with a few weeks of free runs at the box office.

Initially, Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule was scheduled to open in cinemas on August 15. However, it was postponed citing production reasons, and the makers of Thangalaan wasted no time in grabbing the coveted release date. No major competition from Tamil cinema at the box office during this Independence Day holiday is a big bonus for Thangalaan.

Additionally, Thangalaan's theme and subject are well suited for the spirit of the Independence Day holiday. The film is a period drama set against the rule of the British in India. In the movie, Vikram plays the role of the chieftain of a tribe, leading a rebellion against the imperial forces.

The trailer for Thangalaan suggests that Vikram's character, overcome by ambition and greed, joins forces with the British and turns on his own countrymen. The main theme of the movie is the struggle of indigenous people to protect their rights, land, and gold from invading forces.
