Vicky Kaushal as Sam Manekshaw to Fatima Sana Shaikh as Indira Gandhi: Meet the cast of Meghna Gulzar's Sam Bahadur

Director Meghna Gulzar is all set to present the story of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who led the Indian Army from the front during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War. The director has roped in Vicky Kaushal to portray the role of the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal in the upcoming film, Sam Bahadur. The upcoming biographical war drama film portrays several iconic figures like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel among others as it presents an iconic chapter of Indian history and the creation of Bangladesh. Here are the cast who plays what in Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur:

Vicky Kaushal as Sam Bahadur: Sam Bahadur marks Vicky’s second collaboration with Megha Gulzar after Raazi. In a recent interview, Vicky said that it was not easy task to play the titular role. "It is the toughest role of my life, not because of the way he talked and walked but because of the man he was. This was an attempt to live that life. It is obviously a team effort," he said.

Fatima Sana Shaikh as Indira Gandhi: Fatima plays the role of Former Indian Prime Minister Indira Ganndhi, who played the crucial role in India's decisive victory over Pakistan in the Indo-Pakistani War. Playing the role was challenging for her, Fatima said, “Layered characters challenge me. I am subconsciously drawn to them. I was not even sure if I was the right fit (to play Mrs Gandhi) . My brief was not to emulate Mrs Gandhi, but to capture her soul".

Sanya Malhotra as Silloo Manekshaw, Sam's wife: Sam Manekshaw had married Silloo Bode on 22 April 1939 in Bombay. Sanya plays the role of Silloo Manekshaw, and she did a lot of research before stepping into the character.

Neeraj Kabi as Jawaharlal Nehru: First Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru made a major contribution during the 1971 war, actor Neeraj Kabi is all set to take up the role of Nehru in Sam Bahadur.

Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Yahya Khan: Yahya Khan was a Pakistani military officer who served as the third President of Pakistan from 1969 to 1971. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub will justify the character of Yahya Khan in the upcoming film, Sam Bahadur.

Edward Sonnenblick as Lord Mountbatten: Mountbatten was fond of Jawaharlal Nehru and had contributed to the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971. Actor Edward Sonnenblick will feature as Mountbatten in upcoming biopic,

Govind Namdev as Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was an Indian independence nationalist and barrister who served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India from 1947 to 1950. Veteran actor Govind Namdev will be playing the role of the significant leader in Sam Manekshaw’s biopic.
