Vettaiyan release date confirmed: Rajinikanth’s cop drama sets to clash with Suriya's Kanguva this October

Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited cop drama Vettaiyan has finally set its release date for its theatrical debut. The makers of the film took to their social media handles to announce that the Rajinikanth-starrer is set to hit the big screens on October 10, 2024. While the superstar himself had previously confirmed this news, there were speculations about a potential postponement of the film. However, the makers have now refuted these rumours, and confirmed the release date. “Target locked! Vettaiyan is set to hunt in cinemas worldwide from October 10, 2024! Superstar as Supercop!,” they wrote, sharing an intriguing poster of Rajinikanth from the film. 

It is interesting to note that the film will be released in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, as it aims for a pan-India release. 

Notably, fans are now concerned about the film’s major clash with the Suriya-starrer Kanguva on October 10, 2024. 

Kanguva vs Vettaiyan

As announced earlier, Suriya’s upcoming fantasy period actioner Kanguva, directed by Siva, is also set to make its theatrical debut on October 10. Now that the makers of Vettaiyan have confirmed their release on the same day, fans are eagerly anticipating a major box office clash between the two biggies. While some argue that it wasn't a good decision for the makers to choose the same release date, others defend it, expressing excitement for the box office showdown this Dussehra season. 

It's also interesting to note that Suriya and Rajinikanth had a similar box office clash in 2021 when their films Jai Bhim and Annaatthe were released during the first weekend of November. For the unversed, Suriya’s Jai Bhim, directed by Vettaiyan director TJ Gnanavel, and Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe, directed by Siva, faced a similar clash in 2021. As this 2024 box office clash repeats among the stars, fans eagerly wait for their releases!

Vettaiyan cast and plot

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the upcoming cop drama revolves around a retired officer who battles the corrupt system. Besides Rajinikanth, the film will also feature an ensemble star cast that includes Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Kishore, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Shaji Chen, Ramesh Thilak, Rakshan, and GM Sundar, among others. Amazon Prime has reportedly acquired the OTT rights to the film.
